Traces, 2016

Set of 5 digital ink-jet prints, 28 x 28cm

This series looks at the passing of time and the marks we leave behind. It shows the footprint of the previous occupants of my house, and by studying these traces, narratives are subconsciously constructed to fit these visuals. The photos closely focus on the beauty of these remnants, removing them from the domestic scene and in turn making us question their context. These traces act like memories that have captured the mundane acts of general life, a coffee stain on the table which has been created out of thoughtless habit. The work looks at ideas of ephemerality - both of objects and people - versus the permanence of the traces their actions leave behind; the detritus of living.
